Drink Driving

Drink driving is a serious offence, whether the driver is involved in an accident or not.

If the breathalyser test shows that a driver has more than 30 micrograms of alcohol per 100 mg of breath or 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, he is guilty of the offence.

First time offenders can be fined not less than $1,000 and not more than $5,000 and jailed up to six months.

A subsequent offender can be fined not less than $3000 and not more than  $10,000 and jailed up to a year.

A third-time offender can be fined up to $30,000 and jailed up to three years.

Convicted drink-drivers can also be disqualified from driving for at least a year, even if they have not caused any traffic accidents. In cases of disqualification for more than 1 year, your driving licences will be invalidated.
